Shakyamuni and the Four Guardians of the World

According to the Buddhist Sutra, at the Sumeru Mountain, there are four peaks where four guardians are defending respectively one part of the world. The white coloured Guardian with a pipa in his hands is Dhrtarastra; the blue coloured Guardian with a sword in his hand is Virudhaka; the red coloured Guardian with a snake twining around his right hand and a pagoda in his left is Virupaksa; the yellow coloured Guardian with an umbrella in his right hand and a silver mouse in his left hand is Dhanada.

The beneficence of the Four Guardians is that they help those who practice Buddhism to fight diseases, pains, evils and worries. They also enable them to lengthen their span of life and accumulate wisdom and wealth.
